How Darknet Scams Work in 2026

Understanding the tactics scammers use is the best protection against them.

Selective Exit Scam

The vendor fulfills small orders normally to build a positive reputation. Once their rating is high enough, they selectively stop delivering on larger orders while blaming "shipping issues". They stall disputes until auto-finalization if escrow allows it.

Protection: Use multi-sig escrow. Never FE for orders above $100 regardless of vendor reputation.

Phishing Mirror

Scammers clone the exact visual design of DrugHub Tor Market and host it on a look-alike .onion address. When you log in, your credentials are captured. They then log into the real market with your account and drain your wallet or redirect your orders.

Protection: Only use PGP-verified .onion addresses. Bookmark them — never search.

Social Engineering

Fake "market support" messages claim your account is suspended, requires verification, or that you must pay a "security fee". They use urgency and fear to pressure victims into sending funds outside of escrow or revealing PGP private keys.

Protection: Real support never messages first. Ignore any unsolicited contact claiming to be DrugHub Tor staff.

Product Fraud

Vendor ships a different product — wrong substance, significantly underdosed, or an inactive substitute. The package arrives and looks legitimate, making it difficult to dispute. Common with pharmaceutical categories where testing is required to verify.

Protection: Use reagent test kits on all substances. Open disputes immediately if product differs from listing.

FE Pressure

Vendor insists you must Finalize Early before they ship, claiming it's "required for trusted customers" or that escrow "slows their workflow". This is almost always a scam setup. Once you FE, you have zero recourse if the order never arrives.

Protection: Refuse all FE requests. Multi-sig escrow exists precisely to prevent this. Report FE pressure to market support.

Account Takeover

After obtaining credentials via phishing, scammers log into your account, change the withdrawal address to their wallet, and wait for you to make deposits. By the time you notice, the funds are gone and the address has been changed back to avoid detection.

Protection: Enable 2FA, use a unique password, set withdrawal address whitelist, and check your account settings after every session.

Community Protection

How to Report a Scam

Reporting scams protects the entire community. Every report counts.

Open a Market Dispute

Immediately open a formal dispute through DrugHub Tor's dispute system. Provide all evidence: order ID, PGP-encrypted communications, tracking info if available. Do not finalize escrow while a dispute is open.

Post on Dread Forum

Visit Dread Forum at /d/DrugHub and /d/DNMAvengers. Post a detailed, factual report with the vendor name, order details, and timeline. Community visibility accelerates market admin action and warns other buyers.

Leave a Vendor Review

Leave a detailed review on the vendor's market profile. Factual, specific reviews with order details carry weight and prevent other buyers from making the same mistake.

Report Phishing Sites

If you find a phishing .onion, report it to dark.fail and Dread Forum /d/DNMAvengers. Include the full .onion address and description of how it operates. This gets it added to blocklists quickly.

⚡ Emergency Checklist

If you think you've been scammed right now:

  • Do NOT finalize escrow — dispute immediately
  • Change your account password right now
  • Revoke and regenerate your PGP key pair
  • Check withdrawal whitelist address — verify it's yours
  • Check login history for unauthorized sessions
  • Post on Dread /d/DrugHub immediately
  • Contact market support via PGP-encrypted ticket
